economy?!?

I listen to the news, read the paper ect and hear all this stuff about the economy failing. Yet, I am not exactly seeing it. Yes, I know there have been a ton of layoffs from the airplane industry. But they are telling people to resubmit their resumes, cuz they are more than likly going to be rehiring in 2 months. If you look around the city, the parking lots for the movie theaters, restaurants and shopping centers are always packed. So people continue to feed our local economy, so where is it all going? The state is threatening a hold on all state income tax and then saying never mind, we have the money to pay you. But the reports my parents are hearing in Ohio is that the state of Kansas is on the verge of declaring bankruptcy. So what is the truth in all of this. Are people so blaise that they assume the economy will come back up, assuming it is an over exaggeration? I am not sure. I guess I will just have to wait and see what unfolds and pray that the ignorance of the city wins out and that it is an overexaggeration that just blows over.

  1. So what do you think is the truth?

As far as the state having no money bit...my tax lady says it's all political...that Sebelius needed to sign that bill (which she did) and then the money would magically appear (which it MAY have...the state employees were supposed to get their paychecks today, anyway). And I heard that there are going to be no probs getting our state refunds but then again...that could change ANY time.

  2. I have also noticed that about the town. This is what I think. A lot of the workers who have received notices are still working their 60 days out so they don't feel as if they have had a reduction. I also feel that the majority of laid off workers are going to be the type who say, this is great I don't have to work, but I am still collecting a paycheck (unemployment) every week. I think as Americans we overspead and we don't know any other way to live. I think a finance class should be manadorty in high school.
I really don't know many people who have been laid off, but a doctor friend of ours said she has had to write off a lot more. Her concern is that her patients need their treatments and she is looking after their survival.

  3. Work is the one place I am seeing the economic shift. One of our greatest issues at this time has become the financial burden. People either unable to come up with the $30-$50 copays a visit (I don't blame them) and requesting to reduce visits or just not showing for their appointments. Or write offs, because people stating that they were not informed that they were responsible for 20% of the bill.
I am not sure were the answer lies, the frivilous things that we can do without are coming down in price and the necessities are going up.
